API Keys

An API Key is required when utilizing SMTP2GO's API, WordPress Plugin, OSS Integrations or cPanel/WHM Plugin.

You create and manage API Keys from your account's "Sending > API Keys" page in the App:

To create an API Key, click the "Add API Key" button, set your desired permissions and settings, then click the "Add API Key" button.

You can change an existing API Key's settings or permissions anytime by clicking on the API Key, making the changes and then clicking the "Save Changes" button.

For API Keys, you can set an optional description, assign it to an IP Pool (if the account has multiple Dedicated IPs split into IP Pools), set a rate limit, and further settings including:

  • Permissions: Enable/disable certain permissions that the API key has access to.
  • Unsubscribe Footer: Add an Unsubscribe Footer to emails - suppression management is handled on your account's 'Reports > Suppressions' page.
  • Tracking & Status: Enable/disable Open Tracking, Click Tracking or set the status to Allowed, Blocked or Sandboxed.
  • Advanced: Enable/disable Email Archiving for the API Key (available on paid plans or if a subaccount then the permission to use Archiving will need to be enabled by the master account), enable/disable the Email Auditing feature to have BCC copies of emails sent to designated email addresses or enable/disable Bounce Notifications which can be sent back to the original sender or a designated email address.

There is no limit on the number of API Keys that can be added to a paid account. The API Key is not editable/customizable.
