Windows 10 SMTP Bug
Since downloading Windows 10, a lot of people have been experiencing issues sending mails via Outlook.
You may see the following error message: User account – Sending’ reported error (0x800CCC13): ‘Cannot connect to the network. Verify your network connection or modem.
If this happens, you’ll need to repair corrupted files by using the Windows System File Checker using the following steps:
- Close Outlook.
- Right click the Windows Start button and click on Command Prompt (Admin). If this option isn’t available, click Windows PowerShell (Admin) instead.
- In the Command Prompt window, type sfc /scannow (note the space in the command) and hit the enter key.
- Wait until the process has finished. This shouldn’t take any longer than 20 minutes with a regular hard disk, and much less time if you have a fast SSD drive.
- Restart your computer and open Outlook again.
Thanks to Microsoft Office for the tips.
What to do if you see the error: 'You must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility.'
This is a fairly common issue with Windows 10.
1. Open a Command Window in Administrator mode:
* click Start
* click All Programs, then Accessories
* right click on the Command Prompt option,
* on the drop down menu which appears, click on the Run as Administrator option.
* If you haven’t disabled User Account Control (and you shouldn’t!) you will be asked for authorisation. Click the Continue button if you are the administrator or insert the administrator password.
2. Start the System File Checker
* In the Command Prompt window, type: sfc /scannow,
* press Enter.
* You’ll see “the system scan will begin”.
The scan may take some time and windows will repair/replace any corrupt or missing files. You will be asked to insert your Vista DVD if it’s needed.
Close the Command Prompt Window when the job is finished.
Thanks to the Microsoft Community for the resolution.
